Overview

The UPPER Beat

The Upper beat starts approximately 50 yards below the foot bridge over the River Wear south of Low Harpley and finishes below the Burnmouth pool. The beat comprises one and half miles of double and single bank fishing with long fast flows, good tail runs across its 8 named pools. Railway, Ciscorn and Forstead offer anglers the chance of some excellent fly fishing. Anglers fishing the upper beat during the 2013 have caught salmon up to 27lb. Two rods are available on the Upper Beat per day.

The Lower Beat

The Lower beat starts below the Burnmouth pool. The beat comprises of one and three quarter miles double bank fishing with long fast flows, good tail runs across its 9 named pools ending approximately 170 yards above the A68 bridge. Two rods are available on the Lower Beat per day.

Pools on both beats may change slightly during the season due to movement of gravel. The beats enjoy car parks on both sides of the river.

There are a limited number of season ticket holders. This has been running for a number of years. They follow the strict codes of conduct that the Bedurn Estate have put in place.

No dogs on the river bank.


Why you need to fish here

Bedburn Estate is located approximately 6 miles up stream of Bishop Auckland. The beats are some distance from the highways so it is peaceful and quite wild.
