Oxnead Fishery is located on the middle section of the River Bure, a few miles up river from the Norfolk Broads.
The fishery consists of 3.11 miles of meandering river through farmland/countryside between Hautbois (hobis) & Brampton and a mile of double bank from Plantation Bridge at Oxnead Hall & Kings Beck. Two mills at Buxton & Oxnead including sluice gates.
Depths vary but average 1.5 metres, with widths averaging 20 meters. Flows are steady, but there is good velocity at Oxnead Mill, Oxnead Hall Sluice, Plantation Bridge, Buxton Mill & Pile Bridge flowing over gravels.
Named pools; Plantation Bridge has depths to 4ft over gravel. Oxnead Mill has depths to 5ft over gravel. Buxton Mill is run with depths up to 6ft.
The ecology of the water is extremely rich, and provides the right environment for the abundant fly hatches. The beat enjoys good hatches of Hawthorn, Mayfly, Damsel, Sedges and Daddy Long Legs.
Well established chalkstream guide and qualified instructor Ashe Hurst can be booked at a extra cost. Ashe is available for teaching and guiding, both beginners and experienced fisherman on rivercraft, entomology and casting skills.
